Development Studies Programme and the Danish Institute Danida
This study seeks to identify needs and establish principles to develop local government in three middle regions of Gaza: Nuseirat, Breij, and Al-Magazi. It was designed to match the main document of the project “Supporting Development and Municipal Administration in the Middle Areas of the Gaza Strip.” Its main focus is the needs, fears, ambitions and priorities of the residents of the areas surveyed, through discussions of the various developmental issues of concern raised by them and their evaluation of the needs of their communities. The surveys were supplemented with four focal working group meetings, held in the period of 22-25/7/1999, in which businessmen, mayors and municipal officials, and representatives of the local community took part. A training workshop was held to orient the field researchers for conducting the survey.
