CDS’ applied research programs engage policy-makers, amplify the perspectives of marginalized social groups, and promote community ownership over development. Our applied research programs focus on the most marginalized members of our community; including women, youth, people with disabilities and Palestinian refugees, with a focus on Palestinian refugees in the Diaspora. CDS has conducted an extensive array of applied research studies including; policy papers, strategic plans and needs-assessment studies. The center also implements action based research and uses transformative research methods that seek to build knowledge in collaboration with communities.
Building on many of our applied studies, CDS has developed a number of national plans that bring together policy-makers, academics, development organizations and grassroots communities around a shared strategic vision. CDS has extensive experience producing the Palestine Human Development Report in collaboration with the UNDP. Some of our most recent national plans include, a Strategic Plan for Area C and a National Strategy for People with Disabilities. The center formulates and promotes alternative development policies that strengthen grassroots communities, promote local economic development and reinforce Palestinian steadfastness in the face of Israeli colonial policies and encroachment onto land.
